About Emily (she/her)

Hello, I’m Emily. What brings me to this work is a deep belief in the worth of all people, and in the importance of being met honestly and with care. I do not take lightly the trust involved in counselling, and I aim to offer a space shaped by respect for each individual and their way of being in the world.
I qualified in 2018 from The Iron Mill Institute in Exeter, where I gained my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I also hold a Post-Qualifying Diploma in Children's & Young Person’s Counselling, specialising in working with 8-18 year olds.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their ethical framework and engage in regular supervision and continued professional development.
My experience
I work in private practice and as a school counsellor at a special educational needs and disabilities school, where I support young people with a range of additional needs including learning disabilities and neurodiversity. This has given me a solid understanding of how to adapt my approach to meet each individual where they are. Alongside working with young people, I also work with adults. I am experienced at working with those who are parents and/or carers.

How I work
I believe therapy begins with being met as you are, nothing broken. I pay close attention to how each person experiences the world, and I adapt my approach accordingly. I do not expect people to fit neatly into diagnostic labels or conventional ways of communicating.
Before any method or technique can be useful, there needs to be a sense of safety, dignity and trust. Some people want to talk things through in depth. Others may need a slower pace, or a way of working that includes creativity, play, sensory awareness, or simply time to settle.
I know the importance of having a space where people feel less judged, less hurried, and less alone with what they are carrying. Above all, I believe that the relationship we build between us is the heart of any worthwhile counselling.
